The Trailblazer: Alexander Barclay #5 - The Grueling Ups And Downs (FIFA 16 My Player Mode)
It has been a bit since I have talked about Alexander Barclay's FIFA 16 My Player. I also realized that I am still on the Portsmouth side of things. I understand that I am slow when it comes to this show, but ain't no way I am still here. I should be by the next team right now, but it is what it is.
Episode 7: Injury
The episode starts with Barclay announcing that he will be signing with New Balance, which is treated as a big deal. But, I'm not going to forget the fact you kind of dissed them. I have seen the last episode sir, you will not be fooling me. The first game of the episode was away against Mansfield Town. 5 minutes in and Barclay would be in the most obvious offside call. It's kind of funny.
Portsmouth had a lot of chances to score, but Mansfield defense and goalkeeper, Shearer were on high alert. In the 40 minutes, Barclay scored his first header from a corner, making it 1 - 0 to the visitors. During added time in the first half, Portsmouth did their fantastic link up play and it led to Barclay scoring once again from a beautiful link up pass. In the 59th minute, Mansfield's Collins slipped at a danger zone, but Barclay hit the post anyway. It's funny to mention.
In the 60 minute, there was a collision during a Portsmouth corner kick which resulted in Barclay being down and clutching his right shoulder. He would be substituted for Adam McGurk after the referee stopped play once he spotted Barclay down. It was revealed afterwards that Barclay suffered a Dislocated Shoulder and will be out for 8 weeks (or 56 days).
As he is recovering, he went to a lake house for a swim and reflect on his time away from Portsmouth for a while.
Episode 8: Transferred??
The next episode kicks off with Barclay changing his clothes as it's winter in the game. Which I personally find this to be really ironic given the current weather season as of now. Barclay's first game back is against Newport County. Barclay is steadying back into the team as the game goes on. In the 54th minute, Barclay would make a pass to his teammate and his teammate outsmarted a defender to score a good goal.
It could have been more goals if goalkeeper Day (& yes, it is someone's real name) didn't have his working boots after Newport conceded. The ends 1 - 0 to Portsmouth and Barclay didn't start in Portsmouth 1 - 1 draw first leg against Exeter in the J Paint Trophy. The next game is against Bristol Rovers. In the 44th minute, a Portsmouth player scored a goal from a rebound after goalkeeper, Mildenhall made a great save.
In first half added time, Barclay scored an unexpected goal from outside the box as he received a pass from a free kick. Early in the second half, Mansell scored a really good goal from a link up play to get one for Bristol Rovers. In the 80th minute, Leadbitter swings in a really cross and Easter headers in a screamer to equalize for Bristol Rovers. Dude really got punched in the face for that goal. Respect that. In the 85th minute, Barclay made a good run in the Rovers' box before getting tackled in a crunch by McChrystal.
The penalty will be given to Portsmouth, and Barclay is substituted at that very moment which is really sad to see. Chhetri steps up and missed the pen by hitting the crossbar. The game eventually ended with both teams in a 2 - 2 draw. Later in the night, Barclay called his manager and voiced his frustrations about substituted at a crucial moment. After the call, he realized that the transfer window is coming up and that he regrets making the call at that moment.
Episode 9: Deadline Day Drama
Episode 9 kicks off with Barclay doing BMX at a Skate Park. ... Dude, you just got back from injury and you want to bust out your shoulder again. The first game of the episode is against Accrington away. Both teams bring a more of sluggish style to proceedings today. From the 84th to 85th minute, Portsmouth do their brilliant passing technique and led to Driussi scoring a really good header from a cross to break the deadlock. Barclay would once again get substituted.
The next game of the video is against Plymouth Argyle at home. Both teams are equally taking shots and goalkeepers & defenders are doing a lot of work. In the 65th minute, it seemed like Barclay would have a easy goal scoring opportunity, but McCormick made a game saving stop to that. In the 70th minute, Curtis Nelson tackled the hell out of Driussi and received a yellow card. In the 78th minute, McCormick made a crucial save, but didn't anticipate a rebound from Barclay which breaks the deadlock.
In the 83th minute, Barclay would get subbed out after a good shot attempt. After the game, the manager made a call to Barclay to come see him in the office. This is where we get another video game for these off the pitch scenes. The driving to the office was from GTA V to the Maze Bank Arena while the meeting between the manager and him came from NBA 2K16, which is a choice. The NBA 2K games would be used in future My Player installments before it slowly fizzled out.
The manager had news for Barclay and that is he will be staying at Portsmouth. And honestly, Barclay looking a big nose Al in this NBA 2K creation is diabolical. You have used something else my brother.
Post: I got three episodes in here today. Now that is what I like to call a record, so far. I'll do my best to do more of these as we entered the final stage of the Portsmouth saga. I will be watching the Tottenham Hotspurs videos as I finish this one so I wouldn't be stuck in a rock and a hard place for the next section. This was a fun blog to kick off the new month of 2026 and I have more blog ideas to work with.
