DTC IX: Can Flight Mess Up The Flow Of The Rhythm?

The 9th chapter of the Dynamic Thunder Connection series has now arrived. I have just done the Aya Sakura blog and included Kikyo Furusawa's match with her on the Pre-Show and you can see it here. Today's latest edition will specifically focus on Ema Maishima as she challenged Ranna Yagami for the Future Of Stardom Championship on the All Star Grand Queendom PPV.

For those who hadn't kept up with the series so far, I'll explain this in a more brief sense. Ema Maishima survived the 5 other STARDOM rookies that being; Kikyo Furusawa, Akira Kurogane, Yuria Hime, Matoi Hamabe and Anne Kanaya to win the Rookie Of STARDOM tournament. The reward of that being that Maishima received a certificate which is a shot at the Future Of Stardom Title.

This will be a match breakdown in the most washed ways possible. It's been a while since I have done match breakdowns, so I hope you can bear with me. Anyway, it's time to roll with it.

Match Breakdown Time
Ema enters all the confidence in the world. Goddamn, seems like some people of the STARDOM roster can't have special gear. At least Ranna Yagami can have some aura with her current gear. It is such a crazy upgrade from when she beat HANAKO for the Future Of Stardom Title. Not that Ranna's previous gear was bad, because it wasn't.

I do like these title pictures and these pat downs so much. I do wonder STARDOM wrestlers drink water before the bell, because I do find it an odd choice given that I have played sports. And drinking water before a game didn't help, but okay.

The bell rings and Ema immediately starts off aggressive. Doing dropkicks and striking her with many forearms against the ropes. She Irish whipped her to the ropes, and sidestep pass an oncoming dropkick. Then Ema fires back with more dropkicks than Mei Seira's dropkicks in the corner for a nearfall. Falling to do a bodyslam and getting countered allowed Yagami to target the arm. Which is quite important for what happens at the end.

Yagami did more arm and corner attacks before rolling her back down to the mat to kick her in the back to the front. Yagami tries to go for the Beat Buster (Cross Armed Elevated DDT) early, which is a bad idea. Like why would try it quite early? As I expected, Ema got out and started swinging a barrage of forearms which Yagami invited. Yagami blocked one of the strikes and did a Heart Part Six style takedown which put Ema in prime position for the Tae ROCK (Double Omaplata with Leg Stretch).

Ema got out of that shit by placing her foot on the rope. Luckily Daichi Murayama wasn't the referee, because you know damn well he will kick that rope. In the next few seconds, Ema kris cross so Yagami can get caught off guard with a dropkick. The bodyslam fails to pin her, so Ema locks in a Boston Crab to no avail. Yagami got out of the Brainbuster attempt and does a switch to the back for the push. But nah. Ema comes back by rocking her with a BUSAIKUU KNEE.

Ema's moveset continues to surprise me every time it evolves. After that, Ema does her single leg crab to once again, no avail. She went to the outside on the apron and springboard back in to hit a Crossbody onto Ranna. I don't know why this slipped my mind when I first saw, but I'm just staring at my screen looking lost. Like ain't no way she just did that.

She started doing the forearm beats to the chest before getting caught with a heel kick from a running attack attempt. Yagami went for the Beat Strike, only for Ema to duck and pull out a La Casita and almost got the three with the same move she won the Rookie Tournament with. She followed up with the Sling Blade for another two count. I love the fact the camera immediately panned to Hiroshi Tanahashi on commentary, because he is known for doing that move and met Ema Maishima before this. (Even though Ema has been doing this since late last year, but okay.) It's always nice to see the Ace though.

Yagami got out of another Brainbuster attempt and eventually landed a roundhouse kick on her. Ema start firing up only to get dropped by another roundhouse kick. Ema would have the ring awareness of Kenny Omega and grabbed the rope before the three. Unfortunately for her, Yagami realized that she had made a weak point earlier and capitalized. Yagami eventually locked in the Tae ROCK (the move in the picture above) and got the win to retain the Future Of Stardom Title.

This match was really fun one. I was surprised that this wasn't at 10 minutes, but they made the most of their minutes here. Yagami has been a really great as Future Of Stardom Champion since winning the title last month and it makes me wonder if she'll hold it until her 3 year term which is Christmas this year. Hope they keep this consistent pace with having these defenses.

ZERO: ★★★3/4

Backstage Comments:
I kind of stopped doing this backstage comments since I couldn't pull this off properly, but now I got something noteworthy from the ones after this bout. Ema feels pathetic for not being able to beat Ranna Yagami. Meanwhile in the Yagami's comments, her next challenger appeared and it's... Kikyo Furusawa?? Okay, now that is unexpected.

Depending on when the title match will happen, this will either be the next episode of Dynamic Thunder Connection or this will come at the later date since May 21st is around the corner. And obviously, I don't want this to be jumbled up with the plans I have. However, this might happen soon given the cards announced for the Golden Week Fight Tour.

Post: This was quite a fun Ema Maishima focused episode. They are many times where I might be doing these kinds of episode later on in the future of doing these series. As I have said before, I love these two and now I hope Kikyo Furusawa does well in her upcoming title challenge and yes, I'll be supporting her to win.
